What are the Benefits of doing Regular Cardio?
We often hear that doing cardio regularly is good for us. So, how does it affect the body and what does it really do?
Cardio is good for your heart, making it stronger. It helps to decrease your blood sugar levels, which is particularly beneficial if you are diabetic. It helps to improve your mood, so if you are feeling a bit low or are depressed, some cardio exercise will elevate your mood and make you feel more positive.
It helps to improve the quality of your sleep and can help you think better. It has a very positive effect on your memory, and helps your executive functions, (the ability to organize information interpret it and act on it).
The ability to learn is improved with cardio activity. So, don’t stop learning how to do new things as this will help you ward off dementia in your old age.
You can ease arthritis when you move more, fight germs and help reduce your cholesterol levels.
The recommendation is to do at least 30 mins of moderate cardio at least 6 days a week, and aiming to increase that to at least 300mins a week.
WebMD published a good article about all these benefits recently, with the article first appearing on 23/10/2019.
