+

Classes run for 1 hour

50 minutes of exercise and 10 minutes of stretching and relaxation at the end of each class.

+

Classes all start with cardio

Straight onto the treadmill, bike or step for a good warmup and sweat session for 10 minutes to elevate the heart rate and push yourself to work hard. Often we will cycle around the cardio workouts so you get to use different machines. 5 minutes at high intensity during the class to keep that heart rate up. At all times you work to your individual ability. No competition.!!

+

Weight Training

As you age you will have a reduced amount of testosterone circulating your body, which leads to a loss in muscle mass as you move through your older years. To keep as much muscles mass as possible, we work with heavy loads. Using the bar up to 30kg and heavy dumbbells, doing a variety of upper body exercises, standing and lying on a bench.
Weights are also added to lower body exercises so that compound moves
become more practical, working more muscle groups at once.

+

Balance plays a big part in every class

As you age you find that you become less stable on your feet, and can be more prone to falls, increasing your risk of fractures.
We incorporate balance into as many exercises as possible, using the exercise ball, foam rollers to stand on, the Bosu (half exercise ball), and the floor.
The need to mentally be able to focus and balance also requires regular work, so is a big feature.

+

Core emphasis

Learning to use the core for every exercise is key to good technique and posture.
You will be educated on what the core is and how to engage it.
And YES, men also have pelvic floor muscles! If you don’t learn how to use them and engage correctly, you increase your risk of incontinence as you age, so zip up guys!

+

Floor Work

A variety of Pilates themed exercises are carried out on the floor. This helps to learn how to use your core, and learn to switch on moving and support muscles at the same time.

+

Stretching

Focus on improving flexibility and stretching out those troublesome spots.

Tight quads, hip flexors, hamstrings, lower backs and hips can restrict your movements as you age, so we work towards becoming more flexible in these areas doing work with a foam roller, also called a spine aligner. Opening the chest, getting those shoulders onto your back where they belong, and getting the spine into a good neutral position are things that can be achieved with stretching and relaxation.

+

A Little bit of Exercise Together

We do some dumbbell work for the arms, and combination exercises together to music, but you don’t need to worry about dancing around the room, it won’t happen!
The music is there to motivate, keep a beat and give us a set time for the
exercises.
They are often very vigorous, giving you another round of cardio exercise.
