Personal Training One on one with REPS registered personal trainer

Private training will involve working out a program that is suited specifically to the clients needs.  There is no “one size fits all” program. Everyone is individual and has differing needs.

Many of my clients are looking to regain normal body movements after injuries. Retraining the  body  to use correct body mechanics. For others they are looking to improve their general fitness and overall wellness. Focusing on good balance, strength throughout the body and good body brain interaction;  key issues as you age. A program can be designed to work with your goals.

Do you focus on Weight Loss?

The workouts are not necessarily aimed at weight loss but rather a return to normal body mechanics and good health.

As we age it is important to think about your overall health rather than just focus on one area, such as weight. Becoming stronger and fitter will be of greater benefit and you will find that you will likely lose weight as a consequence of being healthier.

Who do you work with?

I work predominantly with women over 50 in this area, but am happy to work with those who are younger.
I do all training in my studio, so it is private and quiet.

Can you work with me if I am injured?

Some of my  clients are looking to recover from an illness or injury and need to get the body functioning again. Often a muscle group has been severely weakened due to a broken bone; such as a broken ankle.

Troublesome shoulders that do too much work and elevate all the time, stiffness in the shoulder joint, weakness in the core leading to lower back issues. These are some of the areas that I can help you with.

If your injury is recent then sufficient recovery time is needed as well as the go ahead from your GP, specialist or Physio before you start a program.

If you just want to improve your general wellbeing then I can help you with a program that will work all of your body and improve your strength, balance, core and cardio health.

Imbalance and Realignment

Often, due to incorrect body mechanics, a group of muscles that should be movers become weak, and even switch off, and the muscles that should have been support muscles become the movers to compensate. This can cause imbalance in the body and cause the body posture to alter to compensate for the imbalance.
Using a foam roller, or spine aligner, can stretch out tight chest muscles and help the shoulders move back where they belong. The roller will help the spine to align better and address the muscle imbalances.
Often, a visit to an osteopath or chiropractor may be required to do some adjustments, and then working 1 on 1 can help to work on restrengthening muscles  that have been lazy, or injured in the past. This can create a better balance in the body.

What exercises can I expect?

The exercises that you will do will depend on the goals you have set. If it is a return to function and mobility after injury or illness we would look at strengthening exercises. Finding the muscle groups that have weakened or
switched off and targeting them to get them working at optimum levels for your body. Often the mind body connection needs to be reactivated as the brain can ‘forget’ how to do a movement, so needs to be retrained.
Over working muscles, such as shoulders may need to be taught to relax more and back muscles may need strengthening.
Your trainer will identify the areas that need work and incorporate exercises into a program that will address these issues.
If you are looking to increase your fitness a cardio and weight training program will be designed for you.
Weight loss will incorporate High intensity cardio (if appropriate for you), combined with a weights workout that will challenge your whole body.
Whatever your needs, a program can be designed to suit.

What if I’m seeing a specialist?

If you are seeing a specialist, you can continue to do so and any exercises prescribed will be added to your program. Always take guidance from your specialist as to how much exercise you can do and what pain level you can
work with. Continued communication between specialist and trainer via the client is recommended until you see improvements.

I have been attending Jane’s exercise classes for about four years, twice a week. Cardio, balancing, stretching, strengthening using weights- it’s all there, but at the pace you determine to suit your fitness level.
